Political Cartoon

This cartoon shows the effects of reconstruction. Now blacks hold more privileges than they had in the past. Such as the right to vote and have jobs. The white southerns are not happy about the situation but are are letting them vote while many men in the south made it difficult for African -Americans to cast a ballot.

  1. This picture to means that when Mr.lincoln became president he changed the world. He was a man that was against slavery. He sat on the fence of slavery and anti slavery. When he won the elcetion he stoped slavery. The slaves were free.(ESPECIALLY IN THE SOUTH.)

  2. This cartoon to me means that Lincoln is basically on top of the world being against slavery with his axe, which was used in my opinion to server the ties with slavery. He looks down on Stephen Douglas and his ideas for popular sovereignty where states can decide to be free or slave state.

  3. to me this cartoon illustrates Lincoln's win in the presidential election. The ax shows how he wanted to end slavery. He is towering over Douglas which to me shows that his ideas were far better than Douglas's.

  4. Lincoln was approx. 6'4" tall and Douglas was approx. 5'4" tall, so Lincoln did tower over him. This cartoon does not represent Reconstruction, but the Election of 1860.
