1960's
During the 1960's major break throughs were being made in medicine. The excitement was evident by the reaction of the people. In 1938 a cure was found for polio. However, progress did not stop there many other antibiotics were being made to prevent and stop other infectious diseases. The birth control pill was also another major accomplishment of the 60's, changing the lives of women. Pharmaceuticals were not the only thing that was changing; the entire medical industry acquired new innovations.Surgery was more efficient, pacemakers kept people alive, and because of this the younger generation was growing up healthier. To reap the benefit of the new medical inventions the topic of health insurance arose. However, Medicine was not the only thing that was changing movies were becoming more radical and political uprising between President Eisenhowerr and Senator McCarthy affected society.

Saving Private Ryan
Saving Private Ryan depicts a World War II journey of soldiers attempting to find the last son of a women who had already faced the death of three of four sons. The casualties the American army faced in D-Day were tragic. The troops only suffered more deaths finding private Ryan. When the troop came in contact with Ryan and delivered the news he refused to abandon his bother in the midst of duty. When the bridge was invaded by the enemy few survived the bloody fight; however, private Ryan did survive and live to start a family of his own.
The movie closely followed the captain. The captain was a smart man, he was able to think on his feet, and he seemed to get the bigger picture. I sympathized with his character greatly because of the amount of chivalry he showed. The captain often put others lives before his own and was successful in saving private Ryan.
If I was faced with the challenge of being a soldier in WWII I would shut down mentally, physically, and socially. There would be no way I could survive in the harsh conditions of the war nor bare to see men loosing there lives all around me.

WWI
The immediate cause of World War one was the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie. This among nationalism, militarism, imperialiam, and alliances caused Austria- Hungary to declare war on Serbia.Soon many nations got involved forming two alliances: the Central Powers and the Allied Powers. The Central Powers consisted of Austria- Hungary ,Germany, The Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria. The Allied Powers were made up of Russia, France, Belgium, Great Britain, and Italy. The U.S.A. later joined the Allied Powers after German U-Boat, Transatlantic cable cut, the sinking of the Lusitania, the Sussex Pledge, the Zimmerman Telegram, and the sinking of three U.S. ships. The political cartoon ridicules the fact that it took so long for America to enter the war and by that time most of the damage had already been done.

Imperialism
This cartoon shows the plan for United States imperialism. The U.S. 's primary move was to obtain Cuba. Eventually, take over the Virgin Islands, Japan, the Philipines, and the Caribbean. The U.S. changed there mind about imperialism in the late 19th century. They thought imperialism would make for a stronger military, establish new markets for trade, and renew American spirit.

T.L.O
- The fourth amendment clearly states that the search or seizure of a person's property without a proper warrant is is illegal. The Principal had no authorized search warrant to search T.L.O's purse nor its contents.
- Schools have rules individual of those of the law. In school you must abide by the selected rules. When school officials saw that T.L.O and her friend may have been breaking those rules they had the right to further investigate.
- I think that T.L.O and her friends fourth amendment rights should apply. If the teacher had clearly already seen both girls in the bathroom smoking what would be the need to search T.L.O's purse for other evidence. At that point the girls should have gotten the consequences for smoking in the bathroom at their school. The only reasonable circumstance for searching the girls purse would be if the was a danger to themselves or other students evident when seen in the bathroom.
- I believe that my school would not search belongings unless a danger was clearly present; however, if rules were being broken there would be consequences.
- I think the Supreme Court should rule that the Assistant Principal are in violation of T.L.O and her friend's fourth amendment rights.

Labor Union
Labor unions were established in the mid 19th century to promote a common goal. Working condition back then were harsh. The workers had to ban together to get things that they wanted such as wages, working conditions, safety, and labor contracts. Strikes occurred when workers came to a common disagreement and things often became volatile. A famous strike being the labor union against the Pinkertons in the Homestead Strike of 1892. This resulted in the end of the local union and the death of many Pinkertons. So due to harsh labor and unfair working condition labor unions had to form and fight for fairness at all cost.
