1960's

During the 1960's major break throughs were being made in medicine. The excitement was evident by the reaction of the people. In 1938 a cure was found for polio. However, progress did not stop there many other antibiotics were being made to prevent and stop other infectious diseases. The birth control pill was also another major accomplishment of the 60's, changing the lives of women. Pharmaceuticals were not the only thing that was changing; the entire medical industry acquired new innovations.Surgery was more efficient, pacemakers kept people alive, and because of this the younger generation was growing up healthier. To reap the benefit of the new medical inventions the topic of health insurance arose. However, Medicine was not the only thing that was changing movies were becoming more radical and political uprising between President Eisenhowerr and Senator McCarthy affected society.

Saving Private Ryan

Saving Private Ryan depicts a World War II journey of soldiers attempting to find the last son of a women who had already faced the death of three of four sons. The casualties the American army faced in D-Day were tragic. The troops only suffered more deaths finding private Ryan. When the troop came in contact with Ryan and delivered the news he refused to abandon his bother in the midst of duty. When the bridge was invaded by the enemy few survived the bloody fight; however, private Ryan did survive and live to start a family of his own.

The movie closely followed the captain. The captain was a smart man, he was able to think on his feet, and he seemed to get the bigger picture. I sympathized with his character greatly because of the amount of chivalry he showed. The captain often put others lives before his own and was successful in saving private Ryan.

If  I was faced with the challenge of being a soldier in WWII I would shut down mentally, physically, and socially. There would be no way I could survive in the harsh conditions of the war nor bare to see men loosing there lives all around me.
